COLFAX—Dr. Melvin J. Roth, 76, who lived near Colfax, suffered a fatal heart attack at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Indianapolis. He had been attending the Indiana Dental Assn. convention and had started home when the attack occurred. Born March 11, 1882 in Rossville, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Everetts Roth. He was married in 1908 to Anna Beck of Lafayette. Dr. Roth was a member of the Oxford Reform Church, near Mulberry, a 50-year member of the New Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 604, York Rite, Knights Templar and the Scottish Rite and Shrine of Indianapolis. He moved from Rossville to Dayton, Ind., with his parents as a child. He taught school several years in Pettit, Ind., before entering dental college. He attended Valparaiso University and was graduated from Indiana Dental College in Indianapolis in 1908. He practiced dentistry in New Richmond for 38 years. Then he moved near Colfax and practiced his profession there for the past 13 years. Survivors include the widow; one son, Meredith Roth of Hammond; three brothers, Dr. S. B. Roth of Seattle, Wash., Harry Roth of Ithaca, Mich., and Dr. D. M. Roth of Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mills and Mrs. Emma Mills, both of Ithaca, Mich. Dr. Roth was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Russell E. Brown Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Albert Mitchell officiating. The New Richmond Lodge will conduct Masonic services. Burial will be in the Springvale Cemetery in Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
